George I Silver Kitchen Dredger, 1719 George G Jones
£550.00
Kitchen Dredger - Cylindrical with Side-handle - London 1719 by George Greenhill Jones - 7.8cm high; 72g - CP/7679
George Greenhill Jones was a specialist maker of small silverware and this silver caster is a typical example of his work.
Made of the purer Britannia standard silver, this cylindical example has a scroll handle to the side which distinguishes it as a kitchen dredger and was probably used to sprinkle flour over muffins.
The full set of marks are stamped to the underside and include the IO maker's mark (first two letters of the surname) and "D" date letter for 1719/20 - Jones registered his first mark in December 1719 just a few months prior to the re-introduction of the Sterling standard. The lift-off cover is marked to the interior but two adjacent holes have almost obliterated it!
This fine example of a kitchen caster is in excellent condition.
