Sorry, this item is out of stock.

This is a lovely arts & crafts silver cream jug made in the workshops of the Duchess of Sutherland Cripples Guild.

The jug takes the form of a sparrow-beak creamer reminiscent of the early 18th century with chased decoration. The full set of Birmingham hallmarks, including the Millicent Sutherland maker's mark, are clearly stamped to the side of the body and the D.S.C.G. surmounted by the coronet of a duke punched to the underside. The condition is excellent throughout.

In 1900, Lady Millicent St.Clair-Erskine, Duchess of Sutherland began a guild for crippled children in Stoke-on-Trent to learn a craft and produce metalware in the arts & crafts style. This became the Duchess of Sutherland Cripples Guild and silverware produced by the guild bears both the "MS" maker's mark of the Duchess as well as the much sought after D.S.C.G surmounted by a ducal coronet stamp.
