Deep-bowled Irish Silver Caddy Spoon, c.1800
£245.00
Caddy Spoon - Celtic Point; Deep-bowled - Dublin circa 1800 by John Osborne - 10.3cm long; 17g - MA/9999
Made by John Osborne of Dublin in the early years of the 19th cenury, this is a large Irish silver caddy spoon with generous proportions.
The Celtic Point handle is free from any personalised engravings (no erasures) and the fluted bowl is deep and well-suited to the extra large teapots that were made in Dublin around this time.
Typically for small pieces of Irish silver, this caddy spoon lacks a date letter, but can be accurately dated to the five years either side of 1800 due to the style, working dates of the maker and the absence of a duty mark (introduced in 1807). The spoon is in excellent condition.
