Nutmeg Grater - Cylindrical with Internal Rasp - Birmingham 1790 by Samuel Pemberton - 3.5cm high; 12g - RD/4623

Sorry, this item is out of stock.

Made in the workshop of the prolific Samuel Pemberton, this small silver nutmeg grater would have been used to flavour toddies and desserts.

The George III period grater is cylindrical in form with a pull-off domed cap revealing a steel rasp. Once grated, the spice can be retrieved from the underside by removing the flat base. The body & cap are attractively engraved and include a shield-shaped cartouche that remains vacant. There is a full set of Birmingham hallmarks stamped to the inside of the flat base and the whole piece is in lovely original condition.

This is a great piece of Georgian social history at a very competitive price.
