Chester Silver Caddy Spoon, 1837 by John Sutter
Sold
Caddy Spoon - Fiddle Pattern - Chester 1837 by John Sutter - 8cm long; 12g - SY/3000
This is an excellent and rare silver caddy spoon made by John Sutter with Chester hallmarks.
Chester-marked silver caddy spoons from the early 19th century are rare and this example bears a good set of hallmarks for the city (n.b. due to lack of space there was no town mark stamped on small spoons). The marks include the duty mark for King William IV and will have been one of the last pieces marked prior to the transition to Victoria's head. This fiddle pattern spoon has a deep, fluted bowl and is free from personalised engravings. It remains in excellent condition.
John Sutter was a Liverpool based silversmith who sent his wares to his nearest assay office in Chester.
