Caddy Spoon - London 1870 by Hunt & Roskell - 11cm long; 33.5g - GY/7296

This is a stunning quality silver caddy spoon made by the Royal goldsmiths Hunt & Roskell.

Both sides of the stem of this chunky caddy spoon are richly decorated with festoons of flowers and the front includes the engraved complex cipher of the original owner. This is a scarce design that we have not previously encountered. The bowl is fluted and decorated to the heel and stamped with the London hallmarks for 1870.

Hunt and Roskell were the follow-on firm that was originally set up by Paul Storr. They were "by appointment" to Queen Victoria as evidenced by the crown surmount to the "IH & RR" maker's mark for John Hunt and Robert Roskell.
