Exeter Trefid Spoon, 1682

Sold
Trefid Spoon - Exeter circa 1682 - 18.6cm long; 25g - KV/9694</p>
This rare trefid spoon ought to be considered amongst the "shaded roundel" series of provincial trefid spoons - however instead of roundels, the front terminal is engraved with seven sexfoils. This typically provincial spoon is marked with the Exeter town mark only to the inside of the bowl, although the original "AS" over "IH" dot-pricked betrothal initials are dated and are no doubt contemporary to the manufacture of the spoon. Although of light gauge, this West Country spoon is in good order with an unworn bowl.
