Table Spoon - Trefid - Launceston circa 1670 by Richard Ash - 19.6cm long; 42g - YG/1356</p>

Sorry, this item is out of stock.

This is a very rare example of a Cornish silver trefid spoon.  The spoon bears three good marks to the reverse of the stem, which have been identified as those of Richard Ash from Launceston. The unusual trefid terminal and markings towards the stem end suggests an early date for a provincial trefid spoon and so an approximate date of manufacture would be 1670 (no later than 1685). The spoon is in fine condition; the bowl is quite shallow with a low profile and could potentially have been "tidied up".

See "West Country Silver Spoons" by Tim Kent for a brief biography of the maker and illustrations of these marks (page 66, marks 9 & 10)
