Cribbage Board - Rectangular - Birmingham 1891 by Mills & Co. - 23cm x 8.9cm; 185g - PS/4564

Made by Mills & Co. of Birmingham, this is an extremely rare antique silver cribbage board.

The front of the board has a trim gallery with drilled holes for the streets, whilst the centre is engraved to one end with the Jack of Spades and to the other with the reverse side of a playing card made by Goodall and Son of London. The hallmarks are located to the middle of the top-side in addition to "PATENT". To the underside are four ball feet and four tubes to hold pegs. The condition is fabulous and despite its late Victorian age is near-mint.

Cribbage or crib is a card game for two people. Points are registered as having been scored by "pegging" along the streets of a crib board.

Charles Goodall & Sons was a British playing card maker based in London who alongside their competitor De La Rue dominated the UK playing card market during the 19th century. The firm's Camden works employed in excess of one-thousand people, and consequently played a key role in the economic development of East London.
