Chamberstick/Vesta Case - Rectangular with Bead Mounts - London 1887 by William Leuchars - 11.2cm long; 10.3cm wide; 5cm high; 227g - SC/6697

This is a very unusual combination of a silver chamberstick and vesta (match holder & striker) made by William Leuchars.

The rectangular dish holds the candlestick sconce (with removable nozzle) and a box with hinged lid for keeping the matches safe from the flame. There is a steel striker to the side of the dish and a looped handle with flat thumbpiece for carrying purposes. This rare piece of Victorian silver is in fine, original condition.

William Leuchars was a specialist retailer of luxury goods with a shop in Piccadilly, London and Paris.
