Sugar Tongs - Concave Arms - London circa 1775 by William Plummer - 14cm long; 36g - TL/3139

Sorry, this item is out of stock.

These are a lovely pair of Georgian silver sugar tongs that are unusual in form.

As with the majority of silver sugar tongs, this pair is made from a single piece of silver, however these have been shaped to give concave arms with a raised decorative motif halfway down, feather-edging and a scallop shell at the top. The attractive decoration to the outside of the bow includes a vacant cartouche with the bonus of no erasure of a previous engraving.

They were made by William Plummer who was one of the top silversmiths of the period and especially well known for his sugar baskets and vases for which these tongs would be ideal. They are in fabulous crisp condition with a clear lion passant and "WP" maker's mark.
