Sorry, this item is out of stock.

This is a truly impressive suite of silver serving dishes made by the most important English silversmith of the 19th century - Paul Storr. This splendid Georgian period suite comprises four covered entree dishes with loop handles, complete with their original Old Sheffield Plate warming stands.

The silver weighs a hefty 7.5kg or 243.25 troy ounces and each piece bears the highly desirable "PS" makers mark for Paul Storr. The covers have a fabulous engraved eagle's head crest with foliate scrolls, whilst the dishes have a more simple version of the same crest. All covers and bases are numbered 1 to 4 to ensure that the pairings are kept together for best fit.

This suite has been superbly designed in the early Regency taste with each of these octagonal pieces having an elegant gadroon border. The loop handles on top of the covers are wonderfully made with an acanthus leaf base and two buds joined at the top. The handle and legs to the warming stands are formed from scrolling acanthus leaves to give an appearance that simply oozes high quality.

The Old Sheffield Plate stands have an upper silvered platform with tin plated hot water reservoir and unusually a lower compartment that would originally have held a hot iron (two of the steel hot iron holders are now missing). Each warming stand has four acanthus feet with similarly decorated side handles. They bear the 8 crossed arrows mark (the Sheffield City mark) of T & J Creswick - Old Sheffield plate suppliers to Paul Storr.

The overall condition of this entree dish suite is excellent, with just some very minor issues to the warming stands (e.g. some lifting ring pulls are missing from the tinned reservoirs and two hot iron holders are absent) and typical knife scratching to the serving dishes from use. The silver can be used alone or in combination with their warming stands, whichever way they are presented they make a truly wonderful spectacle and will no doubt provide plenty of pleasure and prove a great investment.
