Basting Spoon - Stag Hunt pattern - London 1816 by Paul Storr - 30.5cm long; 200g - YH/8804
This is a fabulous early example of a long Stag Hunt Pattern basting spoon made by Paul Storr. This Regency period spoon has a die -struck crest and motto to the reverse terminal and a slightly different mask to the standard pattern to the reverse of the bowl - this implies that a lower die was especially commissioned for this client. The spoon is in fine overall condition.
The die struck crest is described "as an arm holding a cross crosslet fitchee gules" and the motto above in the Scottish manner reads "In Hoc Signo Vinces". The crest and motto of are for the Head of the Taylor Clan - the Taylors of Kirktonhill near Montrose.
