Serving Fork - Fiddle & Thread pattern - London 1828 by William Knight - 18cm long; 68g - YG/6702

This is a very rare and unusual silver pastry serving fork dating from the George IV period.

The fork is 7" long and is made from a good, thick gauge of silver. It has four prongs including a wide pastry cutting edge to one side. In Fiddle & Thread pattern, this fork is further decorated with an original crest and motto to the front terminal - the motto reading "Dieu Ayde" (translates to "May God Help").

We have never encountered a fork such as this before and it is in its original condition (not a later adapted piece). The very thick stem suggests that it may have been for cutting pastries.

The maker William Knight is noted for making all manner of unusual flatware and serving pieces and this may have been a special commission. It is in fine condition throughout.
