Trefid Spoon with beaded Rattail 1694

Sold
Spoon - Trefid - London 1694 by William Scarlett - 195mm long, 44grams - Ref. No.: DP/1964
This trefid spoon is in lovely original condition and bears a great set of William & Mary period hallmarks for one of the most prolific spoon makers of the late 17th and early 18th centuries. The spoon has two distinctive features: the bead decoration along the rattail to the reverse of the bowl and the protruding "ears" to the trefid terminal. The terminal bears the original engraved betrothal initials with "R" being the surname of the newly weds. Excellent condition with a great bowl and fine patina throughout.
