Isaac Davenport Trefid Spoon, 1698

Sold
Spoon - Trefid - London 1698 by Isaac Davenport - 20cm long; 55g - CV/6893
This handsome silver trefid spoon bears a good set of Britannia Standard hallmarks for the specialist spoonmaker Isaac Davenport. Britannia Standard was introduced in 1697 to prevent the crime of coin clipping; the purer required standard meaning that silver taken from coins of the realm was no longer feasible.
With its plain rattail to the reverse of the bowl, this spoon has a good weight and no personalised engravings. It is fine condition throughout with an unworn bowl and nice overall patina.
