Marrow Spoon - Double-ended with Rattail - London 1705 by Henry Greene - 21.8cm long; 76g - SE/6672

Sorry, this item is out of stock.

What a fantastic marrow spoon! This early example dates from the reign of Queen Anne and bears a great set of Britannia Standard hallmarks - the maker's mark is partly mis-struck, but clearly that of Henry Greene the specialist spoonmaker.

An unusual feature of this double-ended marrow spoon is that the scoop section is reversed to lie in the opposite direction. A further point of interest is the complex engraved cipher to one side of the bowl, in addition to the "T.S" with flourishes at the tip of the rattail - the cipher is most likely contemporary to manufacture and the "TS" from the mid-18thC. This marrow spoon/scoop also has a very hefty weight as it was obviously made as a top class piece for an important client. Excellent condition too - what more could you want!

A thoroughly marvellous piece with lots of points of interest to commend it.
