Tumbler Cup - Cylindrical - London 1701 - 7.3cm high; 8.4cm diameter; 200g - JM/6252
This is a good, large silver-gilt tumbler cup, dating from the late William III period. The cup is richly gilt to the interior and also retains most of its original lemon gilding to the exterior (it is worn to the underside where the cup tumbles). In addition to its large size, this drinking vessel was made from a good gauge of silver and consequently has a good hefty weight in the hand. It bears clear Britannia Standard hallmarks to the underside, although the maker's mark poorly struck and illegible. A great piece of high quality early 18th century silver.
