Marrow Scoop - Double-Ended, Britannia Standard - London 1714 by Thomas Parr I (probably) - 21.2cm long; 59g - BD/4743

Sorry, this item is out of stock.

This is an excellent quality Britannia standard silver marrow scoop with a good hefty weight.

Dating from the first year of George I's reign, this double ended marrow scoop takes the standard form with both a wide and narrow scoop either side of a central shank to which the hallmarks are stamped. Between 1697 and 1720, the purer Britannia Standard was compulsory for English silver and the maker's mark consisted of the initial two letters of the surname - in this case it begins with a "P" and given the shape of the punch is likely to be "PA" for Thomas Parr I (Grimwade 2121).

The good gauge of silver used to create this piece has meant that the scoop has survived in excellent condition with no wear and thick rims to the bowls.
