Wine Labels (4) - Port, Sherry, Claret & Madeira; Rectangular Bright-Cut Engraved - Newcastle c.1780 by John Langlands & John Robertson - 4.9cm wide; 27g combined weight - LM/5229</p>
This is beautiful and scarce set of English provincial silver wine labels. Comprising the titles PORT, SHERRY, CLARET and MADEIRA, this set of four date from the period just before the introduction of the duty mark in 1784 and are clearly marked for the premier Newcastle partnership of Langlands & Robertson. They are rectangular in form with a domed surmount and bright-cut engraved border. It isn't often you find a set of Georgian period Newcastle labels and fortunately they are all in fine condition too.
