Spoons (4) - Engraved Trefid - London circa 1690 by Philip Roker - 10.6cm long; 31g combined weight - KT/6789

This is a rare set of four matching silver flameback trefid spoons dating from the reign of William & Mary, circa 1690.

The spoons are beautifully engraved all over and include flame designs around the rattail on the reverse of the bowl and a female mask enveloped within the decoration on the front stem. The cartouche to the reverse side is engraved with original ownership initials. Small spoons of this period are often unmarked so it is a bonus to see the "PR" crowned maker's mark of Philip Roker on three of the spoons.

For small, fragile spoons of this great age, it is lovely to find this set in excellent condition with unworn bowls and crisp engraving.
