Dessert Spoons (12) - Fiddle & Shell Pattern - Elgin circa 1820 by Charles Fowler - 18.8cm long; 500g combined weight - ND/5410
This is an outstanding full set of Scottish silver dessert spoons with provincial marks for Elgin.
Comprising a dozen spoons, this set is in Fiddle & Shell pattern with each spoon being additionally engraved with a contemporary crest of a rooster.
The quality and condition are both superb. Each spoon has a nice chunky feel in the hand. The decoration and crests are crisp throughout, the bowl tips are thick and unworn and all pieces are free from damage, repair and have a nice antique patina.
The marks are identical and clear on the reverse of all twelve spoons and feature "CF" for the maker Charles Fowler, "ELGIN" providing a clear indication of origin and a well defined "St Giles" within a stamp, after whom Elgin's cathedral is named.
A truly fabulous set with many interesting features and no negative issues. At just £100 per spoon, this is an extremely competitively priced set of Scottish provincial silverware!
