Rattail Silver Table Spoon, Britannia Standard 1719
Sold
Table Spoon - Rattail pattern - London 1719 (Britannia Standard) by Isaac Davenport - 19.9cm long; 76g - FE/2328a
With a hefty weight of 76 grams this is a superb example of a George I period silver table spoon.
Made by one of the leading specialist spoonmakers of the early 18th century, this Isaac Davenport table spoon has a bold rattail to the reverse of the bowl. A desirable feature to the reverse terminal is the engraved set of betrothal initials which are also dated for 1720 and are contemporary with manufacture.
This table spoon was made in the purer Britannia standard (95.8% compared with 92.5% for Sterling standard) and is stamped with a good set of hallmarks. The maker's mark is slightly mis-struck but can be easily recognised as the "Da" new standard mark of Isaac Davenport.
A fine spoon in excellent condition throughout.
