Wax Jack - Oval fluted base - London 1799 by John Emes - 12.1cm high; 12.7cm at widest point, 9.5cm long base; 140g - MR/5183

This is a rare example of a Georgian silver wax jack standing on a fluted, oval base with loop handle surmounted by a thumb-plate with floral motif. The wax is wound round the central axle and rises through the top section where it can be lit. A conical extinguisher is attached to a chain for safe keeping and the base bears a full set of hallmarks to the underside. This wax jack is in excellent condition.
Wax jacks were a desk accoutrement used to hold coils of sealing wax.
