Candlesticks (pair) - Corinthian Column - Sheffield 1775 by Henry Tudor & Thomas Leader - 32cm high; 12.5cm square base - VP/4833

Sorry, this item is out of stock.

These are a wonderful pair of Georgian silver candlesticks in the highly popular Corinthian column style of the Neo-classical period.  These 12" high candlesticks are in fabulous condition with good, crisp decoration. The square bases are embossed with goat masks and swags and the top of the fluted, cluster columns have acanthus decorated capitals. The two removable sconce nozzles are appropriately marked to match the sticks and allow the easy removal of spent wax. They are in excellent condition with none of the issues that you expect with loaded candlesticks of this period - no holes, wear, repairs etc. A fine quality pair.

A further interesting point about these candlesticks is the early Sheffield hallmarks. The Sheffield Assay Office was opened in 1773, so these candlesticks date from the third year of the office. Tudor & leader were among the very first entries within assay office register.
