Fish Slice - London 1836 by Mary Chawner - 33cm long; 230g - LM/1514d

Sorry, this item is out of stock.

Over the years, Chawner & Company introduced many new flatware patterns and most of them are illustrated and named in their 1870's pattern book. Rarely a design appears on the market that was not in the pattern book and was most likely a special commission for a particular family or institution and therefore was not widely available for production. This silver fish slice is in one such pattern and what a beautiful design it is!

Made during the late Georgian period, this fish slice was once part of a triple service (36 place settings) that we recently sold with each piece bearing the double crest featuring to the front of the server's handle. To illustrate its rarity, we had never previously encountered any pieces. The raised decoration to the handle has a French rocaille influence and the piercing to the serving blade is simply superb.

This antique silver fish slice has a fabulous hefty feel in the hand showing its very high quality and remains in wonderful condition throughout with a clear set of hallmarks for Mary Chawner.

The engraved double crest to the terminal can be described as follows: firstly as a “demi-bear rampant, muzzled and lined”, whilst the second as “on a mount a falcon close”.

A superb serving piece in all respects!
