Bowl - Nude Figure Handles - London 1936 by Omar Ramsden - 19cm wide incl. handles; 14.3cm diameter; 8.5cm high; 445g - DF/2069
This is an outstanding quality piece of silver by the most highly accomplished British silversmith of the 20th century, Omar Ramsden. For its size, the bowl has a really hefty weight and just oozes high quality.
The two cast nude female figures that act as handles are superbly formed and are each entwined within a heart-shaped rose branch and add a real elegance to the piece. The surface retain the spot hammer planishing marks from the hand-raising process.
The underside is engraved with the familiar "Omar Ramsden Me Fecit" legend and the condition throughout is fabulous. This type of vessel was often made by Ramsden as a porringer, perhaps for presenting to a child at a Christening, and most that are found will be engraved with a message, however this example is blessed from being free of such personalising. A truly wonderful piece of 20th century silver.
