72 Piece Silver Canteen of Cutlery, Sheffield 1906 by William Gallimore & Sons
The Service
We are pleased to be offering a handsome Edwardian silver 12 place settings canteen in the scarce but sought after Queen Anne Pattern. The set provides the standard 6 piece dining service and can accommodate up to twelve people. There are a half dozen pairings of fish eaters also available as optional extras – see below.
The 24 forks and 12 dessert spoons are all hallmarked for Sheffield 1906 and were made by William Gallimore & Sons. The 12 good-sized round bowled soup spoons are hallmarked Birmingham 1924 by Elkington & Company. The 24 silver handled knives are hallmarked for Sheffield 1981, made by James Dixon & Sons and are fitted with Sheffield-made stainless steel blades. Other than the hallmarks they are all a perfect match to each other.
This is a top quality service with each piece having a good hefty weight. All pieces have been professionally polished and benefit from being in excellent condition with no personalised engravings.
Queen Anne Pattern
Queen Anne Pattern was designed in the late 19th century using a combination of two early 18th century flatware patterns – Dog Nose and Hanoverian patterns – and the fluted style that was popular at the time for tea services. The fluting to the terminals give a decorative feature to complement the plain, but stylish design and make it a very attractive pattern.
