Porringer - Half fluted with rope twist band - London 1707 by Seth Lofthouse - 9cm high; 10.7cm diameter; approx. 16.5cm wide incl. handles, 208g - HO/9504

Sorry, this item is out of stock.

This is a splendid piece of Queen Anne silver and bears very crisp Britannia Standard hallmarks for the silver smith Seth Lofthouse. Taking the usual round form with two handles, this porringer or caudle cup is fluted to the lower section and has a rope work band higher up. This a good sized porringer as can be seen in the final group photo where it is the second cup from the left.

The cartouche is framed with chased scrolls and scale work and is engraved with an original betrothal engraving where "F" is the surname initial of the happy couple and "T" and "M" their first names. Rather charmingly, the reverse side of the cup is engrved with the initials "IF" which suggests the cup was later given to a family member as a baptsimal gift. The condition of this fine example is first class with crisp decoration and neither damage nor repair.

We are fortunate to currently have a good collection of Queen Anne porringers with more available from this shop and as shown in the final photo.
