Sugar Vase - Pierced; ruby red glass liner - London 1780 by Robert Hennell - 14cm high (with handle up); 9.5cm high to rim; 8.2cm diameter; 116g silver (213g gross weight) - AY/2837

The piercing of this beautiful Georgian silver sugar basket shows off the colours of the ruby red glass liner to full effect.

Made by Robert Hennell during the early George III period, this lovely sugar vase stands on a pedestal foot and is decorated with bead mounts and bead swing handle which place the piece perfectly to the 1780 period when the design was the peak of fashion. The piercing has been expertly achieved and enhanced with engraving; the additional piercing to the foot showing further attention to detail. The part rubbed hallmarks can be clearly read as being London 1780 by Robert Hennell and the basket as a whole is in fine condition with neither damage nor repair and no issue to the original glass liner. A lovely piece!
