Pierced Silver Rum Label, c.1780
Sold
Wine Label - Rum; Rectangular with Pierced Surmount - London circa 1780 by John Whittingham - 4.5cm wide; 6.3g - RY/1821
This is a beautiful George III period silver wine label with the RUM title to front.
This rectangular bottle ticket has a lovely, pierced surmount and a bright-cut engraved border. It is in excellent condition with original chain. The reverse side is clearly struck with the "IW" maker's mark of the London silversmith John Whittingham. Given the form of the label, this piece clearly dates from the few years either side of 1780.
