Caddy Spoon - Shell Bowl; Bright-cut Engraved Handle - London 1790 by Peter & Jonathan Bateman - 8cm long - GN/5572

Sorry, this item is out of stock.

Peter & Jonathan Bateman silver is extremely rare and this Georgian silver caddy spoon was made by the short lived partnership.

This attractive George III period caddy spoon is in one of the Bateman family workshop's characteristic designs with a fluted bowl and bright-cut engraved handle with the further bonus of no personalised engravings. The spoon is in excellent condition with crisp decoration and clear hallmarks.

The PB/IB maker's mark of Peter & Jonathan Bateman is a highly desirable and very rarely found mark on English silver. Its scarcity is due to the short-lived partnership between the two sons of Hester Bateman following her retirement in 1790; Jonathan died within six months of the partnership's founding. All pieces emanating from this partnership were made during the same date letter year of 1790/91 (between 7th December 1790 and 2nd May 1791) and bear the "p" date letter. A further bonus is that the PB/IB mark on this caddy spoon is very crisp and clear.
