Peter & Jonathan Bateman Dessert Spoon, 1790
Sold
Dessert Spoon - Old English Pattern - London 1790 by Peter & Jonathan Bateman - 17.7cm long; 27g - GA/3232a
Displaying an excellent set of hallmarks, which includes the much sought after PB/IB maker's mark for Peter and Jonathan Bateman, this dessert spoon is a highly collectable piece by this "holy grail" partnership.
Peter and his brother Jonathan were sons of the famous Hester Bateman and their short lived partnership was cut short due to the premature death of Jonathan. All pieces with their makers mark bear the date letter "p" for 1790/1 as they worked for only 6 months during this date letter year.
This dessert spoon is in particularly fine original condition with a thick bowl tip and bears an engraved crest of an antelope's head to the terminal.
