Wine Label - Champaign; Gilt Leopard's Pelt - London 1815 by Paul Storr - 7.3cm wide; 51g - JT/5793</p>

Sorry, this item is out of stock.

The Leopard's Pelt produced by Paul Storr is one of the most sought after forms of silver wine label and this is a fantastic gilt example of the largest version. The design of the label was based on detail taken from the famous Roman period Warwick Vase (See "Wine Labels" where it is illustrated as figures 31, 572 & 573).

Curiously the name on this label is a misspelling of Champagne ("CHAMPAIGN") which gives the piece extra charm and interest. The name is in raised lettering on a matt background and the whole piece is gilt. This solidly made label hangs from a heavy gauge belcher chain and is appropriately hallmarked to the lower section. This is an outstanding quality label and is in fine condition throughout.
