Wine Label - PORT: Gilt Leopard's Pelt - London 1810 by Paul Storr - 9cm x 6cm; 69g - TO/1511
One of the most desirable of all wine labels is the Leopard's Pelt produced by Paul Storr and this is a fantastic gilt example of the largest version. On page 159 of "Wine Labels 1730-2003", it suggests the label was based on a detail of the famous Roman period Warwick Vase and is illustrated as figures 31, 572 & 573.
This label is named for PORT in raised lettering on a matt background and the whole piece is gilt. It hangs from a heavy gauge belcher chain and is appropriately hallmarked to the front top corners. A superb quality label in excellent condition.
