Patch Box - Royalist Commemorative - London circa 1670 by R - 3.3cm x 2.9cm; 1.4cm high - RE/3808</p>
This Charles II period patch box celebrates the Reformation in 1660 with a portrait of the late King Charles I executed in 1649 to the front cover. These commemorations were made for Royalists celebrating the return of the monarchy following the ending of both Civil War and Cromwellian period. It is a very rare example of such a box and unusually is oval in shape. It bears an indistinct maker's mark to the underside ( "R" within a heart-shaped punch and possibly missing the first initial) and is in excellent condition throughout with a crisp portrait.
