Trefid Spoon - Laceback - London 1682 by Stephen Venables - 19.8cm long; 58g - SN/3848</p>
This is a fabulous example of the rare and sought after laceback trefid spoon. The majority of extant lacebacks are provincially made, but this late Charles II period example bears a full set of clear hallmarks for the premier specialist spoonmaker, Stephen Venables. The spoon has a good weight and bears original betrothal initials to the reverse terminal. The diagnostic laceback decoration is located to the front terminal and reverse of the bowl and with just a touch of table contact wear to the bowl is in generally crisp condition. The overall condition is excellent with a full, unworn bowl and good colour. A first class example!
