Tazzae (pair) - Circular with Gadroon Rim and Trumpet-shaped Foot - London 1693 by John Cory - 22cm diameter; 7cm high; 645g - YL/6517

This is a very scarce and fine pair of William III period silver tazzae or footed waiters in superb antique condition.

Each tazza is circular in form with a gadroon border and stands on a trumpet-shaped foot. The centres are engraved with crests featuring a collared and leashed leopard's head erased and the undersides are engraved "R*R" for the original owners.

The condition of both tazzae is excellent with neither damage nor repair and they possess a lovely antique patina. Both sets of clear London hallmarks are located towards the top edge and the underside of the foot is stamped with a lion passant mark. These high quality pieces were made by John Cory and bear his "IC" crowned maker's mark.

John Cory had been apprenticed to Edward Wade in 1646 and worked with his father Thomas Cory of Warminster until the latter's death in 1689 when John took over the family business.
