Pair of Silver Private Die Table Spoons, 1832 Chawner
£260.00
Table Spoons (pair) - London 1832 by William Chawner - 22.8cm long; 180g combined weight - RQ/6638b
Private dies were used to make silver flatware for specific families, regiments or corporations and held by the silversmith for use when commissioned to make additional pieces.
This pair of silver table spoons are a variant of the King's Pattern and were made by Chawner & Company. They likely belonged to a London institution (note similarities to the Guildhall) and feature a portico on six columns to the terminals (as described by Luke Delmas and Luike Schrager in The Finial Sept/Oct 2023 on page 10).
With a weight of 3 tr.oz. each, these top quality table spoons have a very solid feel in the hand and are in excellent condition.
