Scottish Silver Caddy Spoon,1855 Norie74d
Sold
Caddy Spoon - King's Pattern (Single struck) - Edinburgh 1855 by John Wilkie - 9.7cm long - EA/9960
This attractive Scottish silver caddy spoon has the major bonus of being documented in the landmark book on the subject: "Caddy Spoons: An illustrated Guide" by John Norie. the spoon is illustrated as plate 74d.
The spoon has a King's pattern style handle with no distracting personal engravings. The deep bowl is cleverly worked with flutes and curlicues. The full set of Edinburgh hallmarks are located to the reverse side and include the JW mark for John Wilkie - n.b. erroneously attributed to "possibly J Watt" in Norie's book. The spoon is in fine condition with crisp decoration.
