Salt Pots (pair) - Rectangular with Fluted Sides - Dumfries circa 1800 by Joseph Pearson - 9.7cm x 7.2cm x 3.7cm high; 141g combined weight - UD/7073a

This is a very rare pair of Georgian silver salt pots with Scottish provincial marks for Dumfries.

These good-sized, rectangular salt cellars stand on four ball feet and have fluted sides and a double-beaded rim. The original gilding to the interior is mostly present and the overall condition is very good with just slight impressions from the feet to the inside of one example and some black salt marks around the top rims.

The marks to the underside are legible and can be seen to include the "IP" maker's mark for the Dumfries silversmith Joseph Pearson. A great pair of Scottish salt pots that are rarely encountered.
