Wine Coasters (pair) - Openwork Gallery; wooden inserts - Sheffield 1812 by John Roberts & Company - 14.4cm diameter; 5.2cm high - VX/9371

Sorry, this item is out of stock.

These are a wonderful pair of Georgian period silver wine coasters. They have an unusual, but very attractive design with openwork galleries displaying alternating palmette and acanthus leaf motifs. The motifs are beautifully embossed and finely detailed. To the centre of each wooden insert is a lovely flower head cartouche with detailed petals and a plain, unengraved middle. The coasters are mounted with gadrooning in typical Regency style to the top rim and around the base. The condition is excellent throughout (including clear hallmarks), although the wooden bases show some surface wear. Green baize is fitted to the undersides to prevent scuffing to a table.
