Sold
Sauce Ladles (pair) - Old English pattern; shell bowls - London 1775 by Thomas Chawner - 17.5cm long; 110g - BK/1660
These are a lovely pair of Georgian silver sauce ladles that were made by one of the most important specialist silver spoonmakers of the 18th century - Thomas Chawner.
The ladles are early examples of the Old English pattern and bear original and very interesting engraved crests to the front terminals depicting a double-headed eagle chick hatching from an egg! The bowls are the sought after deep, round fluted type found in the mid-18th century.
This fine quality pair of sauce ladles are in excellent, antique condition with typically pinched, bottom-struck hallmarks - the date letter and makers mark are both clear on one of the ladles.
