Candlesticks (pair) - Octofoil bases with Chased decoration - London 1733 by James Gould - 17.4cm high; 816g - EC/5931

Sorry, this item is out of stock.

These high quality George II period candlesticks are in a rare form where the decoration was part of the original casting and highlighted by chasing. The design is French in taste and was introduced by the persecuted Huguenots. The candlesticks are in excellent original condition with crisp decoration. These are a fabulous quality pair with a good hefty weight.

The maker’s mark on these candlesticks is “IG” conjoined with a  crown surmount (Grimwade 1318). James Gould was a specialist candlestick maker and this was his 3rd mark. The full set of clear hallmarks are located under the base and the capitals are appropriately part marked with a lion passant.
