Candlesticks (pair) - Caryatid Columns - London 1751 by Henry Hayens - 26.5cm high; 1415g - Ref. RR/4771
These are an outstanding pair of Georgian silver candlesticks with caryatid stems. The quality and condition are superb.
The centre of the stems are beautifully modelled as maidens holding aloft the urn-shaped capitals that are fitted with removable sconce nozzles to ease the cleaning of spent wax. They are raised on shaped-triangular bases decorated with shells and floral scrolls. These George II period cast silver candlesticks have very solid weights and just exude high quality.
Both candlesticks are in equisite condition with neiother damage nor repair and super crisp decoration - they have obviously been cherished and well looked-after throughout their 270 years!
The undersides are stamped with clear hallmarks for Henry Hayens (conjoined "HH" maker's mark) and have appropriate scratch weights 'No.3/22.16' and 'No.4/22.6' 0 - evidently once part of a larger set.
