Onslow Basting Spoon, 1772

Sold
Basting Spoon - Onslow pattern - London 1772 by Philip Roker - 30cm long; 120g - MF/8339
This is a superb example of an Onslow Pattern basting spoon. This spoon has a lot going for it - good weight and balance, an attractive and original script engraved monogram to the reverse terminal, a thick bowl tip and fine condition and patina. The marks are bottom struck and typically squashed, but crucially remain legible with the "PR" maker's mark of the premier spoonmaker Philip Roker.
The cast scroll terminal is in the highly desirable Onslow Pattern, so named in honour of Arthur Onslow the popular speaker of the House of Commons.
