Caddy Shovel - Gilt - London 1802 by Josiah Snatt - 9cm long - WR/5821

Sorry, this item is out of stock.

Featuring in the definitive John Norie book on silver tea caddy spoons, this is a fine silver-gilt shovel-shaped example by Josiah Snatt.

The delightfully named Josiah Snatt was the leading London-based maker of silver caddy spoons during the first decade of the 19th century. This is a fine example from his workshop with a shovel-shaped bowl and bevelled, coffin-end handle. The entirety is gilt (gold-wash) and the spoon is in superb condition.

Provenance: this is a documented spoon that features as Plate 23e in "Caddy Spoons: An Illustrated Guide" by John Norie.
