Coffee Caddy Spoon - London 1998 by Annabet Wyndham - 6.6cm long; 28g - AJ/6954

This is a rare variant of the silver caddy spoon with this example clearly intended for use with coffee.

The spoon takes a modern approach to the 250-year old idea for the elegant transporting of the raw ingredient for an invigorating hot drink. Once used to carry loose tea from the caddy to the pot, this spoon is similarly purposed for moving ground coffee from a caddy to the cafetiere or coffee maker. It has a deep, generous bowl to guarantee enough is carried and an ergonomic flat handle to prevent spillage. To ensure the spoon's intention is clear, the handle is stylishly pierced "coffee".

The bowl retains its planishing marks from the hammered-raising process to show that the spoon was hand-made. It is London hallmarked for Annabet Wyndham in the final years of the 20th century.
