Leaf Caddy Spoon, 1798

Caddy Spoon - Leaf pattern - Birmingham 1798 - 6cm long; 6g - GR/5763
Leaf-form silver caddy spoons are beautiful in their appearance but are invariably found with a damaged or repaired loop handle. Fortunately this example remains in fine condition with no issue to the handle and the leaf texturing to the bowl remains crisp. The spoon is hallmarked to the underside of the bowl with no apparent maker's mark - this is not unusual for 18th century Birmingham made caddy spoons - and one might tentatively think of Joseph Taylor, Thomas Willmore or Samuel Pemberton being the most likely candidates. A fine-looking spoon in great condition and at a very competitive price!
