Sorry, this item is out of stock.

This is a huge and outstanding quality high-Victorian silver beer jug. With a capacity of 4.5 pints and a weight of 53oz, it makes an imposing sight and would prove mighty useful for a beer drinking session. The large size can be seen in the second photo where it is compared to a standard sized drinks can.

The jug is superbly decorated all over with embossed scrolls and has a particularly impressive ram's mask to the underside of the pouring spout. There is a vacant cartouche to both sides of the main body which remain free from engraving. The interior of this huge pitcher is gilt (gold-wash) to give it that extra air of exuberance. It has a strong scroll handle to hold the weight once full and stands on a skirt foot with an embossed band of oak leaves, acorns and saltire cross – this band is repeated around the hinged cover.

The condition is excellent and the high quality typical of Robert Harper silver hollowware. A very fine and unusual piece of Victorian silver!
